Welcome to the Carers Information pages which provides a comprehensive guide to support services available to carers in North East Essex (Colchester and Tendring areas).

8 steps to take if you are a carer

(1) Are you or the person that you are caring for missing out on any money? See our information and advice page for details of services that can provide help with this. Or ring Carers UK’s Adviceline on 0808 808 7777.

(2) Are there any services that may be able to support you in your carers role (eg accessing transport, meals, practical or emotional support?)  See our information and advice page for details of services that can provide general advice and support for you in your caring role.

(3) Tell Social Services you are a carer - ask for a carers assessment and to enrol on the carers emergency planning service - see here for details

(4) Tell your GP that you are a carer and ask for a health check if you havn't had one recently.

(5) Find your nearest carers group information and advice page or patient/carers group dealing with specific conditions.

(6) Tell people at work that you are a carer.

(7) Check out the national carer support organisations - see information and advice page under national websites).

(8) Try and make time to look after your own health too.  You might need emotional support - see our information and advice page for details of where to go.  You might need support in leading a healthy lifestyle.  Health Trainers provide a free 1:1 service helping with weight management and stress.  Call 0800 7313133 or email healthtrainers@acecic.nhs.uk.  More details at http://www.acecic.co.uk/
