International Victorian Christmas Market - 19 November 2011

 

Nearly £7,000 was raised for local charities at the International Victorian Christmas Market held at Clacton’s Princes Theatre last Saturday 19 November.  Attendance was up by 20% which is thanks to the magnificent Salvation Army band who attracted passers by with a medley of Christmas Carols.  The weather was also a factor with bright sunshine and temperatures more likened to Spring than Winter! Air show Community Fayre - 25 August 2011

Tendring Volunteer of the Year Awards - July 2011

The Annual Volunteer of the Year Awards are sponsored by the Rotary Club of Clacton Jubilee and it’s President, Rick Hale was present to award the certificates and a cash prize of £250 to each winner made payable to the charities of their choice.  Rick Hale said “We are proud to be involved in the Volunteer Awards and fundraise for this and other community projects at the Santa  Claus collection at Christmas”.   The awards were made at the CVST AGM on Friday 22 July and afterwards a community networking buffet was enjoyed by all.   A full list of nominations is available on request.  Visit the news page for more information.

Community Network Breakfast - June 2011

23 Community workers from 16 voluntary and statutory agencies gathered together to share breakfast and seized the opportunity to network with each other.  Fresh coffee and conversation flowed as everyone in attendance promoted their services at ‘speaker slots’.  Lizzie Warrington from NEEPCT spoke about how well the pilot project of the virtual wards has been working.  She called upon other organisations to think about potential projects to compliment the virtual ward project.  Jamie Robinson from the Royal British Legion, Clacton Branch said ‘Thank you for the invite to the Network Breakfast, we really enjoyed ourselves and the chance to promote our services’.  The next Network Breakfast is planned for Friday 16th September 2011.

 

County Council Continues Support for Local Charities

Representatives from 27 Essex-based voluntary and community groups attended an annual awards ceremony at the Essex Record Office in Chelmsford (4 April) to receive certificates and grants totalling £69,466 from the Essex County Council’s Essex Millennium Fund and the Chairman’s Fund. Among the winners were:

Alresford Youth Projects, to cover core running costs and a range of activities at a youth club in Alresford.

Harwich Shanty Festival, towards the costs of running the 2011 festival, particularly the fees of experienced artists.

Tendring Community Voluntary Services, to help the Thriving Third Sector Co-ordinator to run weekly funding and development workshops for voluntary organisations in Tendring.

 

Community Network Breakfast - March 2011

Community workers from both voluntary and statutory agencies recently gathered together to share breakfast and chat.  The event celebrated the return of the Community Network Breakfast. Fresh coffee and conversation flowed as everyone promoted their services at ‘speaker slots’.   Juliet from Tendring Crossroads said “It was really good to meet other organisations and hear what they do” and Albert Reid, Chairman from the Volunteer Centre said “It was an excellent meeting – it was good to meet interesting people and hearing their views”.  Jane Gardner said “it was a good breakfast, well organised, friendly and the room was buzzing with lots of conversations”.  The next network breakfast is planned for Friday 24th June.

 

Tendring Trustee Network Meeting - February 2011

The recent meeting, held on Monday 14th February, was a runaway success.  More than 35 people attended the training session by Sandy Adirondack which was followed by a lively discussion.  One attendee said that through attending the session ‘certain myths had been dispelled’.

Members of local charities and voluntary groups recently received top tips on how to write the perfect press release from the editor of the Clacton, Frinton and Walton Gazette, Harwich and Manningtree Standard, Brendan Hanrahan.

 

Big Society Event - January 2011

The Big Society event held at the Jaywick Community Resource Centre and hosted by the Community Voluntary Services Tendring, welcomed 58 guests from a cross section of 45 organisations both voluntary and statutory sector groups. The event showcased the excellent work being undertaken across the voluntary sector and how partnerships across the statutory and commercial sector could enhance their valuable work. Lively discussions took place at the workshop sessions. Within the current context of the Big Society these discussions highlighted some key areas and how the community visualised the idea in practical terms. The discussions were also useful in the context of improving local community services in the longer term. The information from the event will be shared in a report to statutory and voluntary organisations across Tendring.
