ARE YOU PREPARED FOR THE WINTER?
Residents across Tendring are being offered the chance to pick up vital advice and help get them ready for the winter conditions.
A number of organisations are joining forces to put on a special event which will provide valuable up to date information on a whole range of issues.
The Winter Preparedness event has been organised by Tendring District Council’s (TDC) Emergency Planning Team to proactively support the community and is part of a national campaign by the Government.
It is being held in the Princes Theatre, Clacton on October 27 from 10am to 4pm.
The aim is to:
- raise awareness of the risks winter brings and their consequences
- raise awareness of flood risks and their consequences
- highlight some very simple and straight forward advice such as top tips for travelling, health and well-being and preparing the home
- provide information on access to a national webpage which will contain relevant information and links.
Lynda McWilliams, TDC’s Cabinet Member for Customer and Central Services, said that she hoped people would take the opportunity to drop in at the Town Hall.
“The past two winters have been particularly difficult for many, especially the elderly and vulnerable,” she said.
“Freezing temperatures, snow and ice have resulted in treacherous conditions, services have inevitably been disrupted and people’s lives adversely affected.
“Being prepared for such eventualities can make a big difference in how we manage to cope with these situations and keep ourselves safe and well.”
TDC is working together with partner organisations such as Essex County Fire and Rescue Service, North East Essex Primary Care Trust, Veolia Water East, Citizens Advice Bureau and the British Red Cross to raise public awareness on the benefits of being prepared.
