CVS Tendring’s UK online centre is leading the way towards an online nation, by inviting people to Spend an hour on the internet this Get online week – 30 October – 6 November.
With the clocks going back on Sunday 30 October, everyone across the UK has a spare hour, and the centre is taking part in a nationwide campaign asking people to spend it online! It doesn’t matter if you’ve never even touched a computer before or if you already know a little bit, you’re invited along to drop in for a FREE taster session at the Community Information Centre, 20-22 Rosemary Road from Wednesday 2 November to Friday 4 November between 2pm and 4pm.
There are more than 8 million people in the UK who don’t use computers or the internet, and could be missing out on all sorts of opportunities and benefits as a result.
Lisa Andrews, UKonline Co-ordinator at the Community Information Centre said: “Whether you want to follow your hobbies, keep in touch with family and friends, or just save a bit of time and money doing the things you do everyday – the internet really does have something for everyone.
“We want to challenge the people of the Tendring District to spend an hour with us and see what the internet could do for them! It’s completely free, there’ll be loads of other beginners there in exactly the same boat, and our friendly staff and volunteers will be on hand to help.”
Jean, is one of the people the centre’s Silver Surfers Club has already helped to get to grips with computers. She said “When speaking to my sons about learning how to use a computer it was like listening to a foreign language. Now I can understand a little of what they are talking about. Before I came here I could not do anything, but now I can keep in touch with my friends and family with email. I enjoy coming, everyone is friendly, helpful and has helped with my confidence and makes me feel less isolated.”
To follow in Jean‘s footsteps, why not Spend an hour at the Community Information Centre? To see how computers and the internet could improve your life, just call CVS Tendring on 01255 425 692 for more information.
There are thousands of Spend an hour events taking place across the country this Autumn, aiming to help tens of thousands of people like Jean get a little bit more out of life online. Spend an hour is the fifth annual Get online week campaign from UK online centres, and is being delivered in partnership with Race Online and the BBC, who will also be encouraging those already online to Give an hour to help someone else get online.
