A Guide to CVS Tendring Services
What is the role of the CVS?
There are CVS or Local Infrastructure Organisations (LIO) as we are sometimes called, operating all over the country, and we all share the same purpose and values.
CVST supports, promotes and develops local voluntary and community action through the following five key functions:
1. Support Services
CVST promote the effectiveness of local community and voluntary groups by providing a wide range of support. The following services are provided for our members based in the Tendring District;

2. Liaison
CVST works with statutory agencies and voluntary organisations to co-ordinate local activity. We do this by hosting a range of voluntary sector network events, through the production of regular newsletters, and we develop strong links with statutory agencies such as Tendring District Council, Essex County Council, NEE NHS PCT, the Adult Community College, Essex Police, Job Centre Plus and many others. By working with a wide range of partners we help to identify gaps in services, avoid duplication, encourage partnership working, and help develop new initiatives to meet unmet need. We also encourage the adoption and implementation of equal opportunities policies which underpin the whole of CVS work.
3. Representation
Through membership and consultation work we represent a broad overview of the views and concerns of local voluntary organisations to other agencies in combination with good organisation, accurate information exchange and effective presentation.
4. Development
We help develop new organisations and services to cater for unmet need usually in association with other agencies and funded from a variety of sources. We establish the new service until it is ready to be launched as an independent organisation. For example, in the past we have set up the Tendring Community Transport Scheme, the Tendring Furniture Scheme, Essex Carers Support and other initiatives. Most recently we have set up the Voluntary Sector Development Project and the Tendring Trustee Network. We also strengthen the infrastructure of voluntary organisations by encouraging attainment of a recognised quality standard and help to develop skills of staff, volunteer and trustee through our training programme.
5. Strategic Partnership Work
CVST encourage and enable effective involvement of the local voluntary and community sector in strategic partnership work, including developing, monitoring and evaluating a Local Compact (see below for details of the 'Compact'.) CVST hosts the Voluntary Sector Partnership and is a member of the Local Strategic Partnership and the Tendring Learning Partnership.
The Tendring Voluntary Sector Partnership meets on the first Wednesday every other month (next meeting is 2nd June 2010) and is open to any community or voluntary organisation operating in the locality. Click on link to access minutes from previous meeting and other documents.
