Come and help plant up new community pots
A TOWN centre is set to be filled with colour with more than 30 giant plant pots – but help is needed to plant the flowers next week.
Volunteers are being asked to plant up flowers in 34 pots around Dovercourt as part of an ongoing project to improve the High Street area.
The big red planters, which have been paid for from the High Street Accelerator Green Space funding – run by a forum of local partners and supported by Tendring District Council, have been installed as part of a bright and colourful upgrade to the area.
Designed using the colour scheme from the Harwich Coat of Arms and recent town centre signage, the planters are part of the same project as recent improvements around the Queen Victoria statue and pathways on Dovercourt’s seafront.
The Community Planting Day, run by Community Voluntary Services Tendring (CVST), will see residents meet at the Dovercourt and Harwich Hub in High Street before splitting into smaller groups and planting flowers into the big red tubs.
CVST’s High Street Heroes volunteers will then, with the help of business owners near the planters, weed and look after the planters to keep them looking vibrant.
Tracy Lawrie, CVST’s communities manager, said: “We’ve been so excited to see these planters put in around the town centre to bring some much-needed colour and joy to the area.
“We have some volunteers ready for the community planting day but would love to have as many as possible come along as there are a number of planters all around the town centre.
“They’re going to look great when the flowers in and it will be brilliant for the high street to brighten things up.”
Anyone wanting to help is invited to meet at CVST’s Dovercourt and Harwich Hub at 1pm on Tuesday July 7.
Plants and hand tools will be supplied but volunteers are advised to wear suitable clothing, footwear and to bring their own gloves.
For any queries call the hub on 01255 554115.
