Cream tea for Dementia Action Awareness Week
A CREAM tea and sing-a-long marked this year’s Dementia Action Awareness Week in Clacton.
Community Voluntary Services Tendring (CVST) hosted the event at Imperial House in Rosemary Road, Clacton for invited guests to join the weekly Dementia Café group.
Scones were on offer made by Sailship in Clacton, and Age Well East, Healthwatch Essex and Essex County Council’s Technology Enabled Care Team were all at hand to offer support and advice.
SingAlongAPen sang well known songs and encouraged everyone to join in.
Caroline Szabo, CVST’s community development officer, said: “It was lovely to see everyone having such a good time.
“We run the Dementia Café every week to support those living with dementia and their family and carers.
“Dementia can be a very frightening and isolating condition and having a place to visit where there is support and understanding and space to meet others in the same position is hugely beneficial.
“We wanted to highlight dementia this week and show there are places out there to go and friends you can make while dealing with your diagnosis and condition.
“So to mark Dementia Action Awareness Week we wanted to have some fun with a good singalong, which is proven to be therapeutic for those living with dementia, and a treat of a cream tea, plus have organisations show how they help.
“Everyone had such a good time.”
CVST’s Dementia Café is held on Wednesday mornings at Imperial House in Rosemary Road, Clacton.
CVST also oversees the Dementia Confident Community in the Tendring area, helping to promote dementia awareness.
