End of Street Tag Season Two
WINNERS have been announced for the second season of a free virtual game.
Schoolchildren have been collecting tags and points for weeks as they compete for top spot in season two of Street Tag.
The leaderboards are split into Harwich and Dovercourt schools and Walton area schools.
The winner of the Harwich and Dovercourt Schools game was St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School with 5,594,290 points, winning them £100.
Second place was awarded to All Saints C of E Primary School, getting them £75.
This season’s Harwich and Dovercourt leaderboard recorded a total of more than 9.4 million steps, with 36,349 tags collected and a cumulative distance of more than 12,000 miles covered.
The Walton Schools winner was Rolph C of E Primary School with 1,945,845 points, awarding the school with £100.
Second place was given to Walton Primary School, winning them £75.
Walton leaderboard recorded a total of more than 5.9 million steps, with 14,937 tags collected and a cumulative distance of more than 7,000 miles covered.
Game coordinator, Becky Dowling, physical activity coordinator for Community Voluntary Services Tendring (CVST), said: “The school game has been brilliant for the first two seasons, but the great news is we have one more season left so you still have time to join in.
“Schools and pupils have collected millions of points by getting outside and getting active, by walking, running or cycling.
“Along with the end of season prizes, players also have an opportunity to win lucky dip prizes every week.
“This season we are thrilled to introduce new fobs, to make the game a bit more exciting to some of our players, so call me if you would like to get one of our new fobs.
“To take part, just download the app and start collecting tags.”
Street Tag is a free virtual game, which works by collecting tags on the Street Tag app by travelling between them by walking, running, cycling or scooting.
Tags can be found on school routes, in local parks and public spaces, and at local events making it easy to join in the fun. You can even add your own tag on a location if there isn’t one nearby.
Points can also be earned by completing simple challenges and by attending event, including selfie and drawing competitions.
The Street Tag Community Game started its third season on Tuesday 19th November with new events already planned.
Celebrate the festive period in Walton on Saturday 30th November, 10am – 12pm, at The Columbine Centre, for extra Street Tag points or if you’re in Harwich celebrate at the Dovercourt and Harwich Hub, 10am – 12pm, on Saturday 7th December.
Residents also have the opportunity to learn some ballroom and Latin dances in Strictly Street Tag, at the Dovercourt and Harwich Hub, 7.30pm – 8.30pm, on Wednesday 11th December.
For more information on Street Tag visit www.streettag.co.uk and download the app from Google Play or the Apple App Store to join in the fun and get active.
