Meet volunteer Jack

It’s Volunteer Week! And we want you to meet Jack!
Jack Maddison, a 31 year old, who joined us at CVST on November 4th, 2024. Jack started off doing reception in Harwich, on a Monday afternoon. At first, he didn’t think it was the right thing for him. However, after a month of volunteering he started to find it really rewarding and found it fun meeting new people and hearing about their days.
Jack started volunteering with CVST to help him find a job. The job centre recommended him to find some volunteer work to help with his CV and work experience. After searching different places around Harwich and Dovercourt he found a place with us.
Volunteering has helped Jack come out of his shell, before he wasn’t very social and he now finds himself chatting with many people about their days. Jack looks forward to getting out everyday and helping at our Dovercourt and Harwich Hub. This has also given Jack the chance to prepare for a work environment and learn to be professional.
Jack said: “If people think that volunteering isn’t for them, think again, because I was in the same boat and I proved myself wrong. You don’t know who you will meet each day, it’s just so fun and helpful!”
After a while Jack, not only started working Thursday mornings on reception too but has now started his own group, Friendship Group Supporting Anxiety. This group is starting Friday 6th June, running every Friday, at Dovercourt and Harwich Hub, 1.30pm – 3pm. This new friendship group is designed for those with anxiety to come and make new friends and meet others, for only £2 per session.
