Litter Picking in Clacton

Litter Pickers join together to clean streets

VOLUNTEER litter pickers took to the streets of Clacton to clean up dropped rubbish and cigarette ends this week.

Community Voluntary Services Tendring (CVST) joined the Clacton Volunteer Litter Pickers to tackle paths around the town centre including Rosemary Road, Beach Road, High Street, Orwell Road, and parts of Marine Parade West and Carnarvon Road.

A total of 14 bags of rubbish were collected during two hours of litter picking.

Sharon Alexander, CVST chief officer, said: “We went out in three groups to clear up the litter around the paths near our Clacton hub in Rosemary Road.

“There were lots of food packets, disposable drink cups and a huge amount of cigarette ends and even some dog waste bags.

“We walked around the roads using our litter pickers to collect as much as we could and load it into our trolley.

“The purple bags were then gathered in an area for Tendring District Council to collect.”

She added: “It was a great afternoon working together to clear up some of the litter around the town.

“CVST has supported litter picking groups around Tendring and we have our own litter picking equipment available to hire for free for anyone wanting to clear up their street, village, town or an area of the beach.

“Even just a short litter pick can make all the difference to help keep where we live tidy.”

There were 12 volunteers taking part in the litter pick on Tuesday afternoon.
