Street Tag Community Game Winner Announced

THE WINNERS of the last season of virtual game run in Harwich and Walton have been announced.

Street Tag, which has been running in the Walton area and in Harwich and Dovercourt, turns parks and streets into a giant virtual playground.

Players earn points by collecting virtual tags – making physical activity into a fun game for everyone to get involved with.

In the Harwich and Walton community game, team Mort has won the last season, with 6,669,615 points, beating second place by over 500,000 points.

Clare Coppin from Team Mort said she loved playing the game as it really helped to motivate the family as they wanted to collect points.

She added: “We got out as a family and enjoyed walking together.”

Sandie Williams, whose team Back to Fitness1 came second, said the game was really inspiring.

She added: “Street Tag really worked for us. It even got us out exercising over Christmas.”

This season’s leaderboard recorded a total of more than 22.7 million steps, with 59,819 tags collected and a cumulative distance of 24,766 active miles.

The care homes in Harwich and Walton also competed in the community game, with Alexandra House winning the Care Home competition.

Becky Dowling, physical activity capacity building officer at Community Voluntary Services Tendring (CVST), ran the game.

She said: “Street Tag has gone by so fast with the end of the community game and the end of the school’s game fast approaching.

“It has been a great to see so many joining in our activities and events and getting active in the Harwich and Walton areas.

“We hope to see people to continuing in the school’s game and would be happy to see many of you at other CVST events.”

The school game’s last season is still running until Wednesday 12th February.

Tags can be found on school routes, in local parks and public spaces, and at local events making it easy to join in the fun and be in the race for prizes.

The app will collect the tags within a 40-meter radius and change the colour or picture.

Points add up in real time on the school or community leaderboard.
