Street Tag Olympics and Start of Season Two

Season two of Street Tag has returned to Harwich and Dovercourt

AN OLYMPIC themed week of family fun activities has kicked off the second season of a free community game.

Street Tag, which is running in the Walton area and in Harwich and Dovercourt, turns parks and streets into a giant virtual playground.

The first season’s leaderboard recorded a total of more than 22 million steps and a cumulative distance of 40,378 active miles covered.

The second season of the community game kicked off last week in Harwich and Dovercourt with four-days of fun activities.

Families turned up to a sports day at Cliff Park on Tuesday 6th August for a morning of races, obstacle courses, long jump and more prize-winning activities before joining Seaside Explorers in the evening for a beach clean, sandcastle competitions and games.

Wednesday afternoon families joined game coordinator Becky Dowling, physical activities coordinator at Community Voluntary Services Tendring (CVST), at Cliff Park for an interactive treasure hunt around Harwich.

Thursday was filled with a silly kids walk, with fun challenges for the kids along the way, and a gentle cycle ride along the seafront.

On the last day of the Street Tag Olympics, BoxFit was held in the Dovercourt and Harwich hub before more prizes were up for grabs at a record breakers event where families took part in competitions to see who skip, run or jump the longest or fastest.

Becky said: “This has been a great week of family fun activities.

“We had so much fun with the families that came to our Olympic themed events throughout the week, with sports day, record beakers, walks and other physical activities to get people out of the house during the summer holidays.

“It was a great way to start the second season of Street Tag and we look forward to seeing everyone back out collecting points and coming to our events over the coming weeks.”

The second season is now running in the Walton area too, with its own Olympic themed week currently underway.

Street Tags can be found on school routes, in local parks and public spaces, and at local events making it easy to join in the fun and be in the race for prizes.

The app will collect the tags within a 40-meter radius and change the colour or picture.

Points add up in real time on the school or community leaderboard.

After every season, running for about 8 weeks, those earning the most points while collecting virtual tags will win prizes.

Street Tag Olympics in Walton

FAMILY fun, races and games kicked off the start of the second season of Street Tag.

Street Tag, which is running in the Walton area and in Harwich and Dovercourt, turns parks and streets into a giant virtual playground.

The second season started with a week of Olympic themed events at Jubilee Playing Fields, on Monday 12th August.

Kids were able to enjoy a morning of BoxFit before an afternoon of sports day races, long jumps and bean bag tosses.

On Tuesday 13th August, families then joined Becky Dowling, physical activities coordinator at Community Voluntary Services Tendring (CVST), at Jubilee Playing Fields for an interactive treasure hunt.

The last day of the Walton Street Tag Olympics saw over 15 families turn up for a morning filled with races, boxing and more, with a record breakers style challenge.

Becky Dowling said: “We have had such a successful week and enjoyed seeing the smiles on the kids faces when they win their medals and prizes at the competitions.

“It has been great to see so many families out in the sun and having fun with our box fit, sports day, treasure hunt and taking part in our record breakers challenges.

“We look forward to seeing everyone out and about playing Street Tag during this second season and making their way up the leaderboard to win more prizes!”

Everyone that turned up to events this week received Street Tag points.

Tags can be found on school routes, in local parks and public spaces, and at local events making it easy to join in the fun and be in the race for prizes.

The app will collect the tags within a 40-meter radius and change the colour or picture.

Points add up in real time on the school or community leaderboard.

After this eight-week season, those earning the most points while collecting virtual tags will win prizes.

Start of schools Game

A VIRTUAL game for schoolchildren has restarted in the Harwich, Dovercourt and Walton areas.

The second season of Street Tag will start on Wednesday 11th September, where students can once again compete for prizes by collecting virtual tags.

The free game will allow schoolchildren to collect virtual tags, on the Street Tag app, and gain points around the Harwich, Dovercourt, Frinton, Kirby and Walton areas, by walking, running, cycling, or scooting.

Tags can be found on school routes, in local parks and public spaces, and at local events making it easy to join in the fun. You can even add your own tag on a location if there isn’t one nearby.

Points can also be earned by completing simple challenges and by attending events, including selfie and drawing competitions.

At the end of the season there will be a first and second place prize for the school game, with the first-place school winning £100 and second-place winning £75.

Last season the school leaderboard was split into the two towns with Rolph Primary School in Thorpe as the Walton area winner and St Joseph’s Catholic Primary as Harwich and Dovercourt’s winner.

The Walton school season saw players cover 5,777 miles, while Harwich and Dovercourt school players covered 10,123 miles.

Game Co-ordinator, Becky Dowling, physical activity co-ordinator for CVST, said: “Street Tag is a brilliant way to have fun while getting active.

“There are prizes up for grabs too – with the child who covers the most distance in each season of the game winning £10.

“There are also lucky dip winners each week with a £10 Amazon gift card on offer.

“It’s great fun and easy to take part in – the tags will be on your normal routes, and you can even collect tags when you’re in different towns anywhere in the UK.

“So get involved, get moving and be in for a chance to win.”

If you need help navigating the Street Tag App or tips for making the most out of the game, please contact Becky on 07707 282907.

Special events with extra points on offer will be advertised on CVST’s Facebook page – CVS Tendring.
