Street Tag starts in Harwich

Community Game

A FREE virtual game that gets residents active is returning to Harwich and Walton.

Street Tag is being delivered in Harwich, Dovercourt and Walton by Community Voluntary Services Tendring (CVST), in partnership with Street Tag, Active Essex, Tendring District Council and Essex County Council.

The free game will allow residents to collect virtual tags on the Street Tag app to gain points around the two towns and the surrounding areas.

Players can play as a team or individually to try and top the leaderboard and win prizes.

The community game will start on May 13 until July 9 and the schools can join in on the free game on June 3 until July 23.

Tags can be found on school routes, in local parks and public spaces, and at local events making it easy to join in the fun and be in the race for prizes.

Game co-ordinator, Becky Dowling, physical activity capacity building officer for CVST, said: “After the incredible success of Beat the Street and the number of residents who hit the streets of Harwich and Dovercourt to get active, we look forward to keeping that going with Street Tag.

“This game works from an app and allows players to keep active by running, cycling, walking, or even skipping between tags scattered around Harwich, Dovercourt, Walton and the surrounding areas.

“You can compete against your friends and colleagues, try to reach the top of the leaderboard, or just do it for fun.

“All you have to do is download the app and sign up, then start collecting the tags.

“It’s great fun seeing all the tags on the map and seeing how many you can collect in one journey.”

The Street Tag app allows you to collect tags as you get close to them – showing this by changing colour or shape on your screen.

There are tags scattered all across Harwich, Dovercourt, Walton and the surrounding areas waiting to be collected, and you can even add your own if there is a space.

For more information on Street Tag and how to play visit www.streettag.co.uk and download the app from Google Play or the Apple App store to join in the fun and get active.

School Game

CALLING all schoolchildren in Walton, Kirby, Frinton, Harwich and Dovercourt – a new game has arrived to compete for points and prizes.

Street Tag for schools starts on June 3 – the first of three seasons.

The free game will allow students to collect virtual tags, on the Street Tag app, and gain points around the Harwich, Dovercourt, Frinton, Kirby and Walton areas, by walking, running, cycling, or scooting.

Tags can be found on school routes, in local parks and public spaces, and at local events making it easy to join in the fun. You can even add your own tag on a location if there isn’t one nearby.

Points can also be earned by completing simple challenges and by attending events, including selfie and drawing competitions.

At the end of the season there will be a first and second place prize for the school game, with the first-place school winning £100 and second-place winning £75.

Game Co-ordinator, Becky Dowling, physical activity co-ordinator for CVST, said: “We are really excited to bring the schools game to Harwich, Dovercourt, Walton and Frinton schools.

“The community have already started Street Tag off with a great number of residents signing up to enjoy another active game on the streets and we can’t wait for the schools to join in on the fun.

“All you have to do is download the app and join your school team – then get into the competitive spirit and start playing.

“There are prizes up for grabs too – with the child who covers the most distance in each season of the game winning £10.

“There are also lucky dip winners each week with a £10 Amazon gift card on offer.

“It’s great fun and easy to take part in – the tags will be on your normal routes, and you can even collect tags when you’re in different towns anywhere in the UK.

“So get involved, get moving and be in for a chance to win.”

If you need help navigating the Street Tag App or tips for making the most out of the game, please contact Becky on 07707 282907.

Special events with extra points on offer will be advertised on CVST’s Facebook page – CVS Tendring.
