Summer Safety Days for Tendring families

FREE advice, suncream, cooling ice poles, fruit, and a chance to win a prize raffle were on offer during a series of summer safety events in Tendring.

Community Voluntary Service Tendring (CVST) hosted a series of summer safety events at it’s Harwich and Clacton beach huts in July and August to help families stay safe during the summer holidays.

Essex Fire Service provided residents with water safety advice and CVST provided passers-by with free summer safety information and items including suncream, water bottles and sliders. Morrisons donated free fruit and Essex Police supported by handing out ice poles to families along the seafront in Clacton.

CVST held prize raffles at the events, on July 27 in Harwich and from July 31 to August 4 in Clacton, giving families the chance to win a prize hamper. Sophie Southgate and her daughter Paige Rowland won the Harwich hamper, including fun beach activities and some useful resources to keep families safe, and Sarah Beasley and her family won the Clacton hamper, which also included a voucher for Clacton Pier.

Organiser Lee Knight, CVST’s resilience manager, said: “For the first time last year we held summer safety events to help residents in the area stay safe and well through the warmer months.

“This year we were keen to continue that work and were pleased to provide families and residents in the Tending area with free goodies and advice during the summer holidays.

“It was great to see so many people interested in our information of how to stay safe over summer and how to keep yourself well in the hotter months. “A big thank you to Essex Police and Essex Fire and Rescue Service for joining us - here were many residents and children who found the water safety advice fascinating.”
