“Trustees keep the wheels turning” for Tendring charities

VOLUNTEERS helping to run a charity in Tendring are being thanked on national Trustees Week.

Community Voluntary Services Tendring (CVST) is encouraging more people to take up volunteering, including becoming trustees, by shining a spotlight on its own board.

Yvette Wetton, CVST’s head of infrastructure, is hoping more people will be inspired to take on volunteering roles, including trusteeships, if they see how fulfilling and diverse the opportunities are.

She said: “Volunteering has an amazing way of helping both the charity or organisation as well as the person volunteering.

“Being a part of a good cause lifts your spirit, it makes you feel good, gives you a purpose, helps you learn new skills, and to make friends.

“For those looking for paid employment, it is brilliant on your CV, and for those retiring from work it can be a way of sharing your skills and finding a new passion.”

Trustees are volunteers who sit on the board of a charity and help it to run effectively.

Yvette added: “Trustees keep the wheels turning and keep the whole charity on track, it’s an important role and hugely rewarding – and its voluntary.

“You can be a trustee while still working full-time and be part of something brilliant.

“CVST is lucky to have a board of brilliant trustees – a huge thank you to them this Trustees Week for all they do.”

An invitation only Trustees Dinner will celebrate CVST partner trustees and their dedication at the end of Trustees Week with keynote speaker Bonnie Hill, Deputy Lieutenants of Essex.

Brenda Ellis, chair of CVST, is keen to encourage more people to be trustees and to volunteer.

As a volunteering stalwart, Brenda has helped many charities and good causes over the years by giving up time to help, to support and to guide.

She said: “Being a trustee of CVST is very special to me.

“I admire all the staff and volunteers who come together to make the charity as brilliant as it is today and being a part of that is something I’m immensely proud of.

“There is a huge sense of purpose and achievement from being a trustee – it’s something I would recommend to anyone.”

Trustee stories are available on the CVST website blogs page with more information about the charity.

Trustees Week runs from November 3 to 7, 2025.
