Victorian Christmas Market 2022

SHOPPERS were treated to stalls, singing, Santa and cakes at an annual Victorian Christmas Market.

Community Voluntary Services Tendring (CVST) hosted the market, supported by funding from the Coastal Communities Fund and Essex Path to Prosperity, at Clacton’s Princes Theatre on Saturday.

Charities and voluntary organisations including Epilepsy Action, Clacton Rotary Club, and Traid Craft had stalls, while performances on stage included Mad About Theatre, FitSteps and stars from the pantomime Cinderella.

CVST chief officer, Sharon Alexander, said: “The Victorian Christmas Market is a wonderful day to celebrate the charities and voluntary organisations in our community.

“It was lovely to see so many shoppers come out this year and browse the stalls, buy some early Christmas gifts, watch the incredible performers, and enjoy some delicious refreshments.

“There was something for everyone, including a Charles Dickens reading, a visit from Queen Victoria and her entourage, and a sneak preview to the Princes Theatre’s pantomime Cinderella.

“Children got the chance to meet Santa, who gave out presents, and get their faces painted too.”

CVST chair Brenda Ellis said: “The Victorian Christmas Market is one of the highlights of the year for us.

“Seeing all the staff, volunteers, and stallholders dressed up always makes me smile, and really marks the beginning of the festive season.

“The performers were all truly brilliant and the whole day was great fun.

“Thank you to everyone who came along as well as everyone who helped make the day a great success.”
