CVST hosts Ukraine Independence Day event in Tendring
UKRAINE Independence Day was marked with traditional music, food and presentations in Tendring.
Community Voluntary Service Tendring (CVST) hosted the celebration on Monday, August 25 at Imperial House.
Attendees enjoyed a presentation on the culture and history of Ukraine. There were also musical performances by Elena Robdrup, Angelika Bandasiewicz-Walec, and Oliver Freedman, alongside cello music by Kate, a poem reading, and the singing of the Ukrainian national anthem.
Brenda Ellis, chair of trustees for CVST, said: “Warmest thanks to the staff and volunteers who made the event such a success. It was enjoyed by a large, diverse, engaged audience.”
After the performances, residents basked in the sun while enjoying traditional food and refreshments. Children attending the event were also able to partake in craft activities.
Lera Dmytriw, cultural awareness community connector at CVST, said: “We are very grateful to everyone who joined us to support and celebrate such an important day in Ukrainian history. At a time when so many Ukrainians have been forced to leave their homes and rebuild their lives in unfamiliar places, the strength and resilience of our community shines through. Many who have arrived here bring with them a wealth of skills, experience, and education, yet face challenges and uncertainty about their future. It is so important to create opportunities for Ukrainians to integrate into local communities, while also encouraging greater understanding of Ukrainian people and their culture.”
CVST hosts a weekly group for Ukrainians and Eastern Europeans at Imperial House every Monday from 9.30 to 11.30am.
