Winter Action Day in Harwich

A WINTER warmer event in Harwich saw residents given free information, advice, school uniform, and items to keep warm in the colder months.

Community Voluntary Services Tendring hosted the Community Winter Action Day at the Dovercourt and Harwich Hub in High Street, Dovercourt on Wednesday November 15.

The event saw voluntary organisations offer resources to help people keep warm, employment support, training opportunities, financial support, housing advice, free school uniform, support for the elderly and support for families with children.

Lee Knight, resilience team manager at CVST, said: “Our community action days bring together different organisations to provide residents with a range of information to help them through the winter months.

“CVST gave out winter warmer items to adults and children on the day, which included thermals and socks, as well as food bags.

“Essex Fire Service were giving fire safety advice including offering fire alarm checks.

“There was free school uniform, and Essex Pedal Power promoting free bikes.

“Other organisations were promoting family support, healthy wellbeing, digital support, and money and energy saving advice.”

For residents who were unable to attend the action day, further collection points for winter warmer packs are being held around Tendring in the coming weeks.

CVST has also compiled a list of resources and information for both winter support and to help residents with the cost of living on it’s website.
