Winter Action Day held in Jaywick

WINTER ACTION DAY SUCCESS IN JAYWICK

FREE winter warmer items, school uniform, hot food, and bike health checks were on offer at a Winter Action Day in Jaywick.

Community Voluntary Services Tendring (CVST) hosted the event at St Christopher’s Church in Meadow Way, Jaywick on Wednesday, October 18^th.

More than 25 organisations offered resources to help people keep warm, winter bike safety checks, employment support, training opportunities, financial support, housing advice, free school uniform, support for the elderly and support for families with children.

Lee Knight, resilience team manager at CVST, said: “It’s always amazing when we hold an event like this and have such amazing support from other organisations working in the Tendring area.

“The church hall was filled with organisations offering information and services to the community.

“And we were also treated to free hotdogs and soup from the Jaywick Community Forum.

“CVST gave out winter warmer items to adults and children on the day, which included thermals and socks.

“Essex Fire Service were giving fire safety advice including offering fire alarm checks.

“There was free school uniform, and Essex Pedal Power carried out free bike checks.”

More than 100 people attended the action day, which saw 96 winter packs given away and nine bikes serviced.

Lee added: “CVST is passionate about helping the community keep well through winter, and events like this are just one way we do that.

“Residents are already worried about managing through the colder months, especially with the rise in the cost of living.

“But there is support out there, and our action days aim to bring that support together in one place for families to access.

“We have another Winter Action Day taking place on November 15^th from 10am to 12noon at the Dovercourt and Harwich Hub in High Street, Dovercourt.

“But we also have winter warmer collection points across Tendring, and a website with information, advice and links to services that can provide support.”
