Youth Volunteers Connect Project

PROJECT SET TO HELP YOUNG PEOPLE BOOST THEIR SKILLS

A NEW project to give young people new skills through volunteering has been launched in Tendring.

Young Volunteers Connect (YVC) is a new project by Community Voluntary Services Tendring (CVST) aimed at young adults aged 18-24yrs who are not in work, employment or training.

YVC will offer a safe and welcoming environment where young adults can come together to be supported to get active in volunteering and gain new skills, including financial skills and knowledge and boost their CV.

Placements will be in the community in groups such as walking groups, dementia cafes, gardening and cycling groups, and lunch club.

The aim is to enable young adults to gain valuable work-experience and build their confidence to go onto employment, training or continue volunteering in their community.

The project program will consist of an introduction to CVST and volunteering, a four-week accredited program in managing finances and an 8 week volunteering opportunity/placement, as well as training and one-to-one support with group meet-up sessions.

Tracey Quinn, CVST’s volunteer coordinator for young people, said “We’re really excited for this new project.

“Young adults will gain valuable experience and learn new skills to help them on their journey to employment or volunteering in the community.

“They will have support throughout the project and have fun along the way and make new friends, they will also achieve a certificate in managing their finances – it’s a win win!

“The hardest step for some is walking through the door and trying new things but we hope this project will be the start for positive small steps in the right direction. “

Young people interested in joining the project should contact Tracey on 07938 482530 or email tracey.quinn@cvstendring.org.uk before 26 September 2024.
